A Fishy Story: The Size Of Fish Matters
The working philosophy of commercial fishermen has always been to catch the big fish and throw the little ones back. The thought was that the little ones would grow up to be big ones, ensuring the longevity of the stock. Well, it turns out that approach is wrong and may be having the opposite effect. As reported by David Conover, Dean of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University, some fish stocks are getting smaller, and they are evolving characteristics that make survival and reproduction more difficult.

Dean Conover did an experiment on captive populations of a small fast-growing fish known as the Atlantic silverside. He discovered that continually harvesting only the largest individuals resulted in a crop of fish developing that were smaller and genetically inferior. From his studies, he also projected that fishery yields could drop by as much as 50% within only a few generations.

This means we need to quickly change the fisherman’s philosophy to protect all of our futures.

More Research On The Power Of Vitamin D
The lack of Vitamin D has been linked to many ailments including cancers of the colon, prostate and breast, tuberculosis, schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, hip fractures and chronic pain. The question is how can Vitamin D be tied to so many illnesses? As reported in Discover, the answer seems to lie in the fact that most tissues and cells in the human body have receptors for Vitamin D, suggesting that the vitamin is needed for overall optimal health. In addition, some cells convert the circulating form of Vitamin D into the active form making it available in high concentrations to the tissues. This active form controls up to 200 different genes.

A recent study at Boston University revealed that by activating the circulating form of the vitamin, prostate cells could regulate their own growth and possibly prevent the rise of cancer. Another study with 1200 postmenopausal women found that the women who took calcium with 1100 IU’s of Vitamin D per day had a 60% lower risk of developing cancers of any type than the placebo group.

The authors of the study recommended taking 1500 to 2000 IUs a day of Vitamin D. The Canadian Pediatric Society has already recommended that pregnant or breast-feeding women get 2000 IU of Vitamin D daily. The best kind of Vitamin D is called Vitamin D3. So…since it’s winter time and most of us hardly get any sun on our skins, which can produce vitamin D, you need to up your D today (I just bought some Vitamin D3 this weekend for myself).

Reduce The Risk Of Stomach Cancer With Vitamin C
Researchers in Europe report that people with higher levels of Vitamin C in their blood have a smaller chance of developing stomach cancer. In the study there were 215 subjects in 10 European countries. The researchers found that the protective effect was even more pronounced in red meat eaters. The researchers believe that the Vitamin C is preventing nitrites (preservative found in many meat products) from being transformed into carcinogenic compounds.

Drug For ADHD Kids Causing Them To Be Shorter And Thinner

Researchers from Children’s Hospital Boston analyzed 22 studies examining the growth rates of ADHD kids taking prescribed stimulants such as Ritalin. They found that reduced appetite, a side effect of the drugs, negatively impacted the children’s expected weight and height gains. While the kids may overcome any limitations in height and weight after they go off the drugs in early adulthood, keep in mind that these drugs, like cocaine and methamphetamine, fall into the DEA’s Schedule II designation, i.e., substances controlled because of their dependency, physical/psychological effects or likelihood for abuse in usage (per Wikipedia). In addition, no one is certain how this weight and height reduction is affecting brain development in these children.

So… reducing the reliance on drugs for kids with ADHD may produce the best long-term result for them. You can search the Teplitz Email Report archives at  https://teplitz.com/ezine.htm for alternatives to Ritalin.

Use Tinospora To Relieve Hay Fever Sneezing
So…you’re saying to yourself, tinospora, what’s tinospora? Tinospora is an herb from India. A 2004 study conducted at Miami Children’s Hospital showed that tinospora triggers the activity of white blood cells that play a key role in the immune system. In a 2007 study, 71 people with hay fever were examined for runny, sneezy or itchy noses. Participants took 300 mg of tinopsora or a placebo three times a day for eight weeks and recorded their reactions. By the end of the study, 83% of the tinopsora group had stopped sneezing and more than 66% said their noses had stopped running and cleared completely. 71% also said their noses were no longer itchy.

Researchers used the supplement Tinofend.  So…if you’ve got hay fever, get some tinospora before the start of the allergy season.

New Hope For Preventing ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)

ALS is a devastating disease that quickly and aggressively kills neurons controlling voluntary muscle movement. Researchers at the University Medical Center, Utrecht and Wageningen University, Netherlands, compared the diets of 132 ALS patients and 220 control subjects. The ALS patients showed significantly less Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and Vitamin E in their diets. The researchers think that this lack in the diet may possibly make them more susceptible to ALS.

The researchers’ findings indicate that Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and Vitamin E protect our neurons, making people who regularly consume them 50 to 60% less vulnerable to ALS than those who don’t. Reported in Natural Solutions, Fall 2006

Feedback From A Reader & And A Way To Alleviate Radiation Burns
I recently received this from Teplitz Email Report subscriber, Wanda Yanez. I think you’ll find the information fascinating and helpful. “I enjoy reading your emails. They are very informative and I thank you.  I have forwarded several of your emails to friends who have certain health issues you addressed.

"I wanted to share with you another health finding. It is Emu oil for radiation burns.  I was researching something to relieve my mother, who is a breast cancer patient, from the radiation burns she still is experiencing 9 months after her last radiation treatment. She had gone through a lumpectomy, chemo, and a 28-day radiation treatment that literally burned her skin off.  She suffered from “heat” coming out of her breast, which were swollen from fluid retention in the lymph nodes.

In less than a week of using the Emu oil, my mother noticed that her harden breast had softened and she could feel the difference.

The website below is from the diary of a woman who healed her charred skin from radiation. I am not affiliated with Emu Zine nor with High Cascade Emu.

It would be nice if you would share this info with your constituents."

From a daughter who loves her mother dearly.”

Signed Wanda Yanez, Sacramento, CA.

Jerry: Thank you, Wanda.

Myths And Truths About Migraines
Have you experienced a migraine headache? Here are some of the myths and the truths about migraines:

1.      Myth: Migraines are just bad headaches.
Truth: Migraines are far worse than a bad headache. They are characterized by throbbing head pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Attacks can last from 4 to 72 hours. Also, if both your parents have migraines, there is a 75% chance that you will have them, too. If it’s one parent, then the odds are 50%. Even if a distant relative has them, the odds are 20% you’ll get them.

2.      Myth: I’ll know a migraine if I get one and over-the-counter drugs will fix it.
Truth: The research shows that half of all people who get migraines have not been properly diagnosed by a doctor, whether it’s because they haven’t gone to a doctor or the doctor missed the diagnosis. If the store-bought pain or allergy medication you are taking isn’t working to decrease headache pain, talk to your doctor.

3.      Myth: Migraines are caused by stress and other psychological problems.
Truth: Migraines are a neurological disorder and not a psychological one. Scientists now believe that the intense pain of a migraine attack is a result of inflammation caused by an interaction between the main sensory nerve of the brain and the brain’s blood vessels. While stress may trigger that response, it’s not the cause of the migraines.

4.      Myth: Before a migraine you will see an aura.
Truth: Not everyone experiences visual symptoms before a migraine. Only 1/3 of migraine sufferers see an aura beforehand. If you do experience visual symptoms or auras, they may show up 15 minutes to an hour before the migraine hits.

5.      Myth: Avoiding certain foods, like chocolate, can cure a migraine.
Truth: You may be able to curb the frequency of migraines by avoiding anything that triggers them, but eliminating these foods won’t cure you of migraines.
