Here's your Teplitz Report for February.

Public Switched-On Seminars will be held in March, 2010, including Certified Instructor Training.  Here's what Wendy Humphreys Tebbutt had to say about the Instructor Training program: "The Switched-On Management Instructor's course is a complete turnkey operation at a fraction of the cost of most turnkey businesses. And it includes both immediate and long term add-on business for your increased success."

Feedback From A Teplitz Email Report Subscriber: Here’s what Teplitz Email Report reader Kathleen Hudson has to say about the information in my reports “Thanks for sending one of the most interesting newletters.” I hope you agree with Kathleen’s assessment.

To your success,
Dr. Jerry V. Teplitz

Some Quick Fixes from The Big Doctors Book of Home Remedies

Here are some quick fixes from the book The Big Doctors Book of Home Remedies (Rodale Press). If you use any of them, let me know if they work.

  • Use arnica ointment to reduce pain and swelling.

  • For heartburn drink 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a half-glass of water and sip it during a meal.

  • If your heart is beating too fast, rub your eyes.

  • If you have eczema or any itchy, red or irritated areas, use avocado oil.

  • To treat mild depression, sniff essential oils made from lemons, oranges, peppermint or lavender.

Green Tea Is Hot For Reducing Heart Disease And Cancer Deaths

A study published in the Annals of Epidemiology found that consuming seven cups of green tea a day resulted in major reductions of the risk of death from heart disease and colorectal cancer for people aged 65 to 84.

The researchers compared 14,001 people in Japan who drank less than one cup of green tea a day to those drinking seven or more and found a 75% reduction in heart disease.

The reduction for colorectal cancer was 31% when the seven-cup drinkers were compared to those who had less than three cups. Deaths from all causes were also 55% lower. So…let’s do a tea ceremony, and bottoms up!

Being In Nature Has A Definite Effect

Studies conducted by the University of Rochester looked at the impacts of people exposed to natural environments versus those exposed to man-made environmental elements. The results were fascinating:
  • The nature-observing folks ranked close relationships and community of higher importance than they had previously.
  • The nature-observing folks were more generous in a simple test of their capacity for sharing their wealth.

Other studies have found that green environments can lower crime rates, lead to less violence, faster recovery from illness and even better grades for students.

Pycnogenol For Osteoarthritis Pain

Pycnogenol is a pine bark extract that has been tested in over 200 studies. Two recent studies found that osteoarthritis patients who took pycnogenol for 3 months reported that their pain and stiffness were reduced by 35 to 55% and that they needed fewer drugs such as NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors. On top of that, there were no side effects.

Other possible benefits of pycnogenol include lowering LDL cholesterol (the bad one) and raising HDL cholesterol (the good one), reducing blood pressure and the risk of clotting. It also helped to control blood sugar and cut the days needing to be on meds for menstrual pain in half.

So…ask your doc first and then take a 50 mg tablet two or three times a day with meals.

Lowering Your Stress Hormone

Cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands and helps to regulate blood pressure and the immune system during a sudden crisis. This is our fight-or-flight response in action. Though useful in a true crisis, our cortisol production system can get “stuck” in overdrive and cause or contribute to such long-term health issues, as type II diabetes and impaired immune response.

A study at Maharishi University found that subjects who practiced Buddhist meditation significantly reduced both cortisol and blood pressure. Participants who meditated daily for four months decreased cortisol by 20% whereas a control group’s levels went up slightly.

Another way to lower cortisol levels is to play music. Researchers found that playing music for patients undergoing colonoscopies reduced the elevation of their cortisol level better than those patients who underwent the same procedure in a quiet room.

So…the relatives are coming for dinner and you’re getting nervous, meditate and put some Steven Halpern music on!

Four Ways To Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

Here are four ways to lower your blood pressure naturally and the first one is yummy.

  1. Eat ½ ounce of dark chocolate every day. Just make sure it contains 70% cocoa.

  2. Slow breathing decreases stress hormones.

  3. Go for a power walk at a brisk pace because it helps the heart use oxygen more efficiently.

  4. Take 60 to 100 mg of co-enzyme Q10 up to three times a day to help dilate blood vessels.

A Better Choice Than Statins

Tomatoes produce a natural antioxidant called lycopene, which helps the body block the absorption of LDL cholesterol. Scientists at the British Cardiovascular Society have found a new modified form of lycopene that may reduce cholesterol levels more effectively than statin drugs. The supplement is called Ateronon and it was originally developed by Nestle.

If you are going to continue to use statins, make sure you take co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Originally, when Merck issued the first statin drug, they also filed for a patent for CoQ10 as a necessary component to be used with their drug. When they started marketing their drug, however, they never even mentioned the need for CoQ10.
